Live Online #134: Festival

Somewhere in the last month this podcast passed more than 20,000 listening hours over on play.fm. Granted, it’s spread out over 134 episodes, but still I’m pleased and more than a little flattered that people are listening.

I may have to slow down the pace a little bit in the new year and there may not be a new podcast every week – I’m pretty sure quality wins out over quantity and I’d like to present only when I have something new to show. I’ll also be rethinking the membership strategy soon – it’s one of those things that looks good in theory, but in my case falls flat in practice. Try stuff out, but only keep what works…

What Comes Around – a self-remixing album for Android smartphones

I have just released a new full-length album called What Comes Around. It exists only as an app for iPhone and Android, and it remixes itself on every listen. Listeners also have the option of  turning on the microphone and letting the app mix in environmental sounds. Have a listen to the free version doing its thing below.

For iPhone and other iOS devices, first download the free RjDj host app. Both the free and full versions are available as additional download from within RjDj. Alternatively, get the free version or the full version from the RjDj website.

For Android, get the 5-song free version from the Market here, and the 14-song full version here.

Live Online #133: Dialog

Hey,hey! I managed to assemble my Shruthi-1! It may have taken two days and two soldering irons, but everything’s working as it should – and importantly it’s sounding lovely.

You can hear the Shruthi-1 all over the first half of this week’s set, albeit in a supporting role. It’s not that the Shruthi-1 isn’t perfectly capable of holding its own, it’s just not the right place for it here.

To make up for the missed week last week and since it’s almost Christmas, I’m making the complete show available for free download this week. Enjoy! Premium members get the show in 256kbps.

Live Online #131: Patience

I’ve ordered myself a little boutique synthesizer kit from France called the Shruthi-1. I think it’ll play along nicely with my Doepfer Dark Energy. I’m hoping to play my windcontroller through it, provided I don’t bork the assembly. Now that I’m starting to get a handle on programming sound in Pd, it’ll be fun to get a little insight into the hardware side of things, too. Better start warming up the soldering iron!
