Live Online #18

I’m gearing up for my performance with Kou Chou Ching, Chang Jui-chuan and DJ Point at The Wall in Taipei this coming weekend. I admit to being a little nervous about the show – The Wall is a pretty important club and since my sets are improvised there’s always the possibility that things go South. That said, the set that I’m presenting here today turned out to be a real confidence booster, along with the capacity crowd at Substance. Thanks to everyone who came out – having you along for the ride makes it all worthwhile.

Live Online #17

This week’s set features Buddhist chanting from China – very similar to the style of chanting we hear all over Taiwan, too. Most recently I was exposed to these haunting sounds during the funeral ceremonies for my grandfather-in-law, though it didn’t feel appropriate to make recordings of my own then. Finding Nego Elias’ vocals has been one of the highlights of using ccMixter for me. I used his vocals from a track by C Dala in When You Come from the Stone Bell EP. Live Online #14

Owing to internet gremlins (or possibly the mild typhoon that’s just leaving Taiwan), I had streaming problems in Second Life today and had to cancel the show at Substance. This week’s episode was recorded at Mood Lounge on Thursday.

Starting this week, there are more listening and downloading options. I’ve started archiving these sets as 24bit masters and can now offer a higher quality mp3 for a small fee. You can still download a free version at 96kbps (the same quality I use for streaming these sets live). You can also listen to a medium quality version at play.fm. I welcome your comments on this arrangement – keep in mind that it’s not an easy task to balance spreading the music as far and wide as possible with my eventual goal of making a living from it ;^)
