Live in the real world

Although I do most of my performances online, I do have a couple of real world events coming up around Taiwan in July.

First up is a performance at Luvstock 2009 on Saturday, July 11th. Boston Paul of The Refuge in Dakeng is the organizer of this yearly event that just seems to keep growing. The following performers are confirmed for the two-day event:  DJ-REdo (Dominikolas), Militant Hippi Revolution, Dr. Reniculous lips and the Skallyunz, Plan B, The Stackers, Jon R. (Artist), David & The Flintstones, Waysoon, City of Earth, Point 22, Jagabags, Gruveballs, Tyler Dakin, and myself. Sounds like a party, so if you’re around Taichung on the 11th and 12th you know where to go.

I’m also really excited about performing at The Wall in Taipei for the first time on July 26th. The occasion is the CD release of “Kou Chou Ching presents: Unsung Heroes”. As we speak, I’m finishing up the master for the album. There will be performances by all the artists on the album, ie. Kou Chou Ching, Chang Jui-chuan, DJ Point, and myself. This is bound to be a goodie! More info (in Chinese) here.

To close this news update, here’s another cool machinima by Aiden Witrial of audience members at one of my Mood Lounge performances in SL:

Suncake Lounge Vol. 1 now available

Chris Bailey and I have just released Suncake Lounge Vol. 1 online. The disk is still at the printers’, but you can preorder it now and download a digital version in the meantime.

In the spirit of trying all things but keeping the good, we’re trying to build some interest with the dijit below. You can listen to the complete album in it and help us promote the album by reposting the dijit on your Facebook page, MySpace, blog, etc. We really appreciate the help!

Winner: Ubuntu 9.04 Free Culture Showcase

A while back I entered Invocation off the Stone Bell EP into the Ubuntu 9.04 Free Culture Showcase competition. This was really one of those things where I entered and forgot about it, so what a pleasant surprise to be informed that the track has been selected as the winner in the audio category.

I guess the most exciting part is that the track will be included in the 9.04 edition of Ubuntu in the examples folder and will soon find its way onto the desktops of millions of Ubuntu users. Keep in mind that I got married a week ago and you’ll pardon me being one happy Shang right now ;^)

Current projects

Just an update on the projects I’m busy with at the moment.

1. I’ve finished a backbone mix for an EP with guitarist Chris Bailey. This weekend, I’ll be tracking Chris and myself jamming to the backtrack and then embroider on it further. At the moment, the idea is to sell this as a very long (25 – 30 minute) single for a buck. And to make it into a series with regular installments. I guess it all hinges around how the first one turns out. You can hear Chris and me jamming together two posts down

2. Mixing a new track for Kou Cou Ching. This track is destined for a collaboration album featuring new tracks and remixes by Kou Chou Ching, Chang Jui-chuan, DJ Point and myself. This one will be a physical (CD) release and the release date is tentatively set for the middle of 2009.

New arrival: Stone Bell (EP)

I’ve been working pretty solidly for the past two weeks on getting these six tracks ready for public consumption, so I do feel quite a sense of achievement with this release of the Stone Bell EP. Most of the work went into making the website at http://stonebell.moshang.net – since this is a digital only release, this is the place to pull these songs together as a unit visually. I took some color cues from Mark Forman‘s photo that I picked for the album cover.

Releasing an EP is a bit of an experiment, so we’ll see how it goes with that. Someone has already gotten back to me with the comment that he “doesn’t do EP’s”. For all I know, that’s the general consensus out there, but I guess I’ll find out…

At the moment, I’m starting to get the feeling of a slate being wiped clean – you know, getting ready to start something fresh.
