Live Online #104: Atmosphere

I discovered fiverr.com this week. It’s a site where people sell their services for $5 – actually, it’s $4, since fiverr.com takes a buck on each deal. It’s amazing what people are willing to do for not much money. I got myself a brand new bio for my about page, and my profile up on Wikipedia. I’ll be back to hunt for more bargains soon!

Live Online #102: Exploration

I went through a phase of great expectation and excitement over Korg’s Monotribe this week. I’ve been toying with the idea of adding an analog synth to my sonic palette. But now that I’ve had a closer look, I’m not so sure that the Monotribe is what I’m after – might just be too limited. Doefer’s Dark Energy is starting to look like the best fit for me. The Dark Energy offers better out-of-the-box expandability than the Vermona Lancet, and though the DSI Mopho looks and sounds awesome I’m not a fan of the idea that you need to program it via software to get the most out of it – may as well stick to softsynths in that case. Still, I might be tempted to spring for a Monotribe if it’s priced right.

Live Online #101: Rejuvenate

We’re enjoying a long weekend over here in Taiwan for Tomb Sweeping Festival. I’m using the extra time to put final touches to the soundtrack for the demo (not the trailer yet) of a forthcoming non-fiction feature film. I’m really taken with the project and if all goes according to plan, I’ll be doing the soundtrack for the completed film as well.

I’m expecting the final cut of the National Geographic documentary to arrive this week. Once it does, I’ll spend a couple of days tidying up loose ends and making sure the cues are perfect before I upload final high quality versions.

With an eye to collecting my royalties for these and future projects I’ve decided to move from the South African music rights organization SAMRO to the US-based SESAC. It makes sense with me here in Taiwan and all but a fraction of my royalties coming from outside of South Africa.
