I recently set up and artist account Reverbnation – it wouldn’t seem necessary since I have my own website, but sometimes it’s good to have a presence in a venue with charts to see how you stack up. It’s also an additional avenue for discovery. I like the fact that they have local and international charts – there are a bunch of artists from Taichung that I didn’t know about before and it might be a good place to look for future collaborators.

The National Geographic Asia production that I did the music for (Koxinga: A Heroes Legacy) aired for the first time here in Taiwan on the weekend. It’s bittersweet to say the least – I worked on the project on and off for about two years and delivered final masters in May, but sadly I haven’t received half of my agreed-upon pay yet. The fault lies neither with National Geographic, nor the production company who made the show, but rather with my agent in Canada who suddenly doesn’t have money to pay me after receiving payment in full for my work months ago. Live and learn… something.

New this week, membership at moshang.net! I think I may have been giving my music away a little too generously up to this point, and here’s the thing about giving music away, it’s a balancing act between getting as many people to hear the music, whilst still leaving enough incentive for people to invest in it too. I’d dearly love to spend more of my time on my music, but especially with a month-old baby in the house, I can’t afford to do so unless it pays for itself. So, from this week, podcast listeners will hear only the first 25 minutes of the set, MLO Free members get to download the complete set in radio quality, and MLO Premium members get to download the full-length high quality recording every week. MLO Premium membership costs $25 a year and also gives access to every high quality recording in the archive (right now there’s over 120 hours worth of high quality recordings in the archive!).
