Em. and I are loving every moment of our stay on the beautiful island of Samui. The palm fringed beaches are tough to beat and the weather has been fantastic. Our first couple of days were in Lamai with a busy shopping street that really starts hopping when the sun goes down.

We’ve since relocated to BoPhut which is less busy than Lamai or the poster child beach of Chaweng but which suits us perfectly – relax to the max! We love our accommodation at the Samui Heritage Resort – friendly, cosy, highly recommended!

Tomorrow we move to our final hotel on the island – three nights with a sea-view near Lamai. I expect our batteries to be fully recharged when we head back to Taiwan via Bangkok on Thursday. It’s been an unforgettable trip.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Em. and I are having a fantastic time on our first visit to Thailand.

We’ve spent our first couple of days in bustling Bangkok. In some ways it reminded us a lot of Taipei, surprisingly. We stayed at the Heritage Bangkok in Silom, right across from the Chong Nonsi BTS (Skytrain) station. Ours was a lovely large boutique room, complete with a small lounge and kitchen. It was a perfect base to explore from, especially armed with one-day BTS passes. We loved cooling off in the rooftop pool after a day in the city.

On our second day we took the river ferry to the reclining Bhudda (where I managed to grab the sound of coins dropping into alms-bowls) and the Grand Palace. A hot day of walking, but well worth it. We’ll be stopping off in Bangkok again for a day of shopping on our way back to Taiwan.

We arrived on Koh Samui yesterday and are in love with it! Good thing, since we’ll be spending the next week and a bit on the island. Here in Lamai there are great little markets stalls, fantastic food, awesome weather, beatiful beaches… We’re in heaven!

Huzzah! I’m officially on vacation and Em. and I are flying to Bangkok on Wednesday. I won’t be performing in SL for the next two weeks, but I’ve prepared two archived sets and the MLO podcast will appear here at the usual time on a Sunday evening while I’m absent. As befits a sound jeweler, I’ll be taking the H2 field recorder with me and will be sure to grab interesting sounds in Thailand. Who knows, I may get enough material for a second MLO special ;^)
