It’s been a wild weekend in Taiwan with typhoon Morakot causing devastation in southern parts of the island – more than 20 bridges are down, remote mountain villages are cut off and in some cases buried under mudflows. Some areas received more than their yearly rainfall in just two days. Ironically, authorities feared a water shortage before the typhoon arrived.

Where we are in Taichung in central Taiwan we were lucky and were spared most of the brunt of the typhoon. Time to count our blessings!
